It worked fine and was pleased with it until it started freezing dvds. My next purchase will be a panasonic or sony. Bought this DVD player back in October 2007 so it's about a year and a half old. I use it occasionally and it is kept in a cabinet so I really don't think that a dvd player that is 1.5 years old should break.
Discs get stuck, many won't play but play fine on PC drive, unplugging and plugging back in and power cycling sometimes fixes it, avoid Samsung DVD at all costs.
I definitely will not be buying any more Samsung DVD players. Over the course of a month or two it went from pausing two or three times during a movie to the point where it was pausing every 14-30seconds as soon as you hit "play". The picture was awesome on my 57" 1080p and the optical input was a must for my surround sound. At first I thought maybe the DVD was scratched but then I noticed it was pausing with all of my DVD's, even the new ones so I checked them by playing them with my Toshiba DVD player (which does not upconvert) and had no problems.hmmm. I called Samsung hoping that maybe there was something that could be done and there was, I could get it repaired. However for the prices I was quoted for repairs I might as well toss the piece of junk and buy a new DVD player, which is what I ended up doing. However, I am extremely frusturated with the quality of this product. You'd have to stop the movie and then start it again and then it would run fine.
It was too distracting and I finally had to unplug the piece of crap and go back to my regular DVD player. Looking around on the internet for reviews on this product (after it broke) it seems that there were quite a few other people that had the same problem. This is the first Samsung product I've purchased and I absolutely loved this DVD player.while it worked. After a year (of course after the warranty ran out) it started pausing during movies. I own several DVD players (lots of TV's) and I treat my electronics very well so I don't understand how my Panasonic DVD player that is over 10 years old still works great and this Samsung could barely hack it a year.
We are going to purchase another DVD player. However, the DVD freezes during play. Wonderful picture, we love it. Otherwise, it has a clear picture. I purchased this DVD player along with a Samsung HLT5687S 56" Slim LED Engine 1080p DLP HDTV. The TV is "AWESOME". You have to fast forward it to get it to play again.
Will not buy Samsung products again after terrible customer service and unreliable equipment. They required I pay the shipping to get it repaired. This DVD player has broken twice and repaired once in just over a year. The first time, it was still under their 90 day warranty. Ridiculous.
